Trust Board

The Trust Board is the organisation’s governing body. It comprises the Chairman, Non-Executive Directors, the Chief Executive and Executive Directors (senior staff of the hospital). Collectively they take corporate responsibility for the strategic development and actions of the organisation. Former Director of Social Services for Dorset between 1983 and 1997. Former President of the Association of Directors of Social Services in 1995. Trustee of the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust. Provides management consultancy services in social and health care.

Jeffrey Ellwood
Retired following a long career in marketing chemicals and pharmaceuticals and several years as a company chief executive. Also a local magistrate and chairman of the council of Brunel University.

Jan Bergman
Has worked in both public and private sectors and has spent most of his working life in senior positions in healthcare management. First Chief Executive in the country to take two hospitals to Foundation Trust status.

Director of a management consultancy. Was an NHS manager for 34 years and latterly the Chief Executive of the Greater Glasgow Health Board.

Appointed to Dorset County Hospital as a Consultant specialising in elderly care in 1986. Previously Medical Director of the West Dorset Community Trust from 1990 to 1994. Chair of Medical Staff Committee, 1998 - 2003. Clinical Governance directorate lead, 1995 - 2004.

Experience across a variety of acute sector providers, leadership and development programme expertise. First level registered nurse, specialist qualification in orthopaedics, BSc (Hons) in Health Studies, qualified Neuro-Linguistic Practitioner.

Extensive operational management experience in the community and acute setting. Has been a company director for a number of businesses, establishing a profitable food manufacturing plant, supplying a number of leading supermarket chains.

Jean George

Jean George
30 years' experience of working within the healthcare sector in both the UK and Europe. Initially spent 16 years within the commercial healthcare sector in marketing, sales and product development. Her NHS career has spanned 14 years within the community, acute and primary care settings at board level, including six years as a Deputy Chief Executive. Has also held a number of Executive Director positions including Director of Operations, Business Development & Marketing and Income & Information, and ran a £100m PFI project, successfully taking the project from Strategic Outline Case to Preferred Bidder.
