Trust Board

The Trust Board is the organisation’s governing body. It comprises the Chairman, Non-Executive Directors, the Chief Executive and Executive Directors (senior staff of the hospital). Collectively they take corporate responsibility for the strategic development and actions of the organisation.

Trust Board meetings are now open to the public and held on the first Tuesday of every month.

Jeffrey Ellwood
Retired following a long career in marketing chemicals and pharmaceuticals and several years as a company chief executive. Also a local magistrate and former chairman of the council of Brunel University.

Sue Sutherland OBE
Sue Sutherland

Former Chief Executive of Poole Hospital. Before joining Poole Hospital was the Chief Executive of UK Transplant, a Special Health Authority responsible for transplantation services in the UK. Career has spanned 34 years both in the NHS and with a major health charity. Worked as a nurse and midwife in London, Cheshire and Surrey before embarking on a career in NHS management during which she gained postgraduate qualifications in Human Resource Management. Prior to becoming a Chief Executive held a number of executive director posts in the acute sector including Director of Nursing, Director of Human Resources and Director of Operations. Was awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Honours List in June 2006.

Peter Knell
Currently a Major in the Army. Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Associate of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and Chartered IT Professional. BSc (Hons) Informatics, MA Strategic Human Resources and MSc Information Management and Technology. Substantial experience of organisational development, IT programme management, financial planning and assessing financial risk within large organisations.

Julia Gerzon
Holds a BA (Hons) Social Sciences, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development and of the Institute of Training & Occupational Learning and is a Member of the Institute of Directors. Has held Senior Manager and Board positions with various large companies. Notable recent appointments have been the Personnel & Training Manager for Tesco, Human Resources Director for Reed Exhibition Companies (part of Reed Elsevier), Director with the EIS Network and recently a Human Resources Consultant with Randall Hill LLP working in the Far east, Europe and the States besides the UK.

An experienced financial manager with significant board experience in a wide range of NHS sectors and a proven track record in financial recovery.

Former Deputy Director of Finance at NHS South West, has led the financial recovery of two challenged organisations in the region.

Has strong links with networks within the NHS nationally, in the South West and within Dorset in particular. Was responsible for the development of the NHS South West financial strategy and financial planning in the short, medium and long-term, and contributed to national policy through the National Strategic Health Authority Directors/Deputy Directors of Finance meetings.

Former director of Hall and Woodhouse Brewery Group in Blandford, responsible for human resources and the tenanted estate. Has also been a non-executive director for the National Probation Service and Signpost Housing Group. Has an MSc in HR Development and a Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management, and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
