The role of the Council of Governors is to make sure that the views of the wider community are taken into account. The Council of Governors works closely with the Board of Directors to carry out three important roles:

Advisory

To act as a source of ideas about how the NHS Foundation Trust can provide its services in ways that meet the needs of the members and the wider community.

Guardianship

To make sure that the NHS Foundation Trust operates in a way that follows NHS principles and values and the terms of our authorisation.

Strategic

To support the Board of Directors in setting the longer term vision for the Trust and influencing proposals to make changes to its services.

To discuss and provide advice on the Trust’s future vision and strategy.

To monitor how well the Trust is meeting its objectives to deliver high quality services.

We believe the Council of Governors will do this by meeting regularly throughout the year. Sub group committees are set up to explore, in more detail, various aspects of hospital development including Nominations & Remuneration, Membership Recruitment & Management, Public & Patient Involvement and Strategic Review.

Our Council of Governors is made up of elected and appointment members (details below).
