Giving In Memory

At times families and friends wish to honour the memory of a loved one by donating to the Hospital that cared for them.

Funeral Service Collection
Funeral homes can arrange for a collection to be made during the ceremony in memory of a loved one. We can provide a special form for this. This makes it easier for us to thank those donating for their gift and it enables friends and family to Gift Aid their donations thereby increasing its value to us.

In lieu of flowers
Some families decide to request donations are made to Dorset County Hospital Charity instead of sending flowers in sympathy for their loss. It can be arranged that these are sent either directly to the Charity or alternatively to the Funeral Director who will forward them on to the Charity at a later stage.

If you would like to make a gift in memory directly to the Charity, click here to download an In Memory Donation Form as it is helpful for the Charity to know the name and address of the contributor together with the name of the loved one they are remembering.

For further information or assistance organising 'In Memory' collections, please don’t hesitate to contact the Fundraising Office on 01305 255419 or email: fundraising@dchft.nhs.uk

Payroll Giving

Setting up a donation through your pay provides the Hospital Charity with invaluable regular income enabling us to plan more effectively for long-term projects. It also means you can help support us without having to pay any tax on your donation.

For example, a donation of £5 gross per month will cost you £4.00 if you are a standard rate tax payer or £3 if you are a higher rate tax payer.

If you are interested in setting up a donation through your payroll speak to your payroll department today. It is advisable to include our registered charity number and address on your donor form:

Dorset County Hospital Charity
Fundraising Office, Trust HQ
Williams Avenue
Dorchester
Dorset
DT1 2JY

Registered Charity No: 1056479

Giving Assets

Giving gifts other than cheques or cash may provide greater advantages to you in terms of tax savings and long term estate planning:

Gifts of Real Estate and Personal Property

Personal property that has appreciated in value since acquired (such as real estate or art collections) can be a very effective way for donors to make a gift. As soon as we have confirmed we can accept it the property can be transferred to the Hospital Charity.

To claim the relief you will need to obtain a certificate from us which will contain the following:

  • a description of the qualifying interest in land which is the subject of the disposal
  • the date of the disposal
  • a statement that we have acquired the qualifying interest in land

More detailed notes are available on http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/guidance-notes/chapter5/part1.htm which explains exactly how you can claim your tax relief with several examples.

Donating Stocks or Shares

Share giving is now one of the most tax-effective ways to give because donors can deduct the full value of the securities on the day they are given and avoid capital gains taxes. Gifts of land, buildings, shares or securities are not taxed if they have increased in value since they were purchased. If you wish to donate shares that have made a loss, you may wish to sell them first, realise the loss against other capital gains and then donate the money using Gift Aid.

1. Donating stocks or shares to the Hospital Charity will require you to sign a transfer form to take the shares out of your name and put them into the Charity name. You can obtain a form by contacting the registrars of the company whose details will be on your share certificates.

2. In the box entitled 'Full name and postal address of the person to whom the security is transferred' on the transfer form please write in the following:

Dorset County Hospital Charity
Fundraising Office, Trust HQ
Williams Avenue
Dorchester
Dorset
DT1 2JY

3. Send the transfer form, once completed, and your share certificate to the same address for the attention of: The Fundraising Manager. Alternatively, we will also be able to help you with the transfer procedure.
The Charity encourages donors to consult with their legal and financial advisors to determine the optimal way to fund a gift. We are always happy to meet with donors and their advisors to make a donor's wishes become reality.
