Patientline
During your stay in hospital keep in touch with friends and family, watch your favourite television programmes or listen to a wide choice of radio stations all from your hospital bed. Patients now have access to their own personal TV and telephone at all times, conveniently positioned right beside the bed.
Dorset County Hospital has installed the Patientline bedside system that offers all patients:
- Free 24–hour radio (six stations)
- Free one hour of TV each morning, 8am - 9am
- Choice of 18 television channels
- Free messaging service to let friends and family know your personal Patientline telephone number
- Free answerphone service
- TV is free for children aged 16 and under (until 9pm)
- TV prices - 24 hours hire £2.90, three days £7, five days £10
- Phone calls are 10p per minute (minimum call charge 10p)
Using Patientline
You can sign up before you enter hospital by calling 0845 414 0414 and can use your credit or debit card to pre–purchase TV and telephone time. You can then start using all these great services as soon as you get to your hospital bed.
You can also buy TV and phone cards, with a choice from £3.50, £5 and £10, from vending machines located on every ward in the hospital. Patientline Advisors also visit each ward every day and will be happy to help you obtain a Patientline card, or upload credit so that you can use your TV or telephone straight away.

Dorset County Hospital has a restaurant as well as a café, tea bar and shop run by the hospital’s League of Friends.

In addition, vending machines serving drinks and snacks are situated in various locations throughout the hospital.

Your friends and relatives can send you mail during your stay in hospital. Please make sure they write your name and ward clearly on the envelope before sending it to:

There is a post box next to the League of Friends Shop in North Wing, Level 1. Ward staff will be happy to post letters for you.
Cash machine
