Privacy and Dignity
At Dorset County Hospital, one of our key priorities is to ensure that every patient’s privacy and dignity is maintained at all times.
We strive to ensure that men and women are cared for separately. The majority of our wards provide care for men and women. However we make every effort to ensure that they receive that care in single sex bays with separate washing and toilet facilities.
In some wards, e.g. coronary care, intensive care and admission areas, men and women may be nursed together because of the special needs. We do however make additional efforts to ensure that their privacy and dignity is not compromised.
If you have any concerns about this, please talk to a member of staff.
Statement of Compliance - Dorset County Hospital’s commitment to delivering same-sex accommodation:
Dorset County Hospital has assessed the compliance of its wards with regards to same-sex accommodation.
DCH’s beds are compliant with the Department of Health standards.
However, to further enhance our accommodation, we have installed additional washing and toileting facilities on our Emergency Medical Unit.
We are also creating three more side rooms with en-suite facilities in our trauma ward and providing additional toilet and washing facilities on two of our surgical wards.
The Trust Board is committed to eliminating mixed sex accommodation and improving privacy and dignity for patients.
