EMU: Emergency Medical Unit

Dorset County Hospital’s Emergency Medical Unit plays a crucial role in improving patient care.

The unit’s capacity has been increased to 19 beds which enables patients arriving from the Accident and Emergency Department with acute medical conditions to be fully assessed by doctors and nurses and stabilised, before being transferred to the most appropriate ward.

EMU liaises closely with the hospital’s Clinical Site Managers, A&E and other departments to ensure the smooth transfer of patients. Patient feedback is very positive.

Our philosophy

We aim to improve the patient experience and journey from admission to discharge or transfer while promoting optimum care during the patient’s stay.
